ATAL UTKRISHT Vidyalaya is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of Uttarakhand to elevate the standard of government secondary schools by transforming them into model centers of academic excellence and holistic development. This scheme aims to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, innovative teaching-learning methods, and a supportive environment that fosters the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of every student.
The program focuses on improving educational quality through enhanced physical facilities, digital classrooms, well-trained teachers, and a balanced curriculum that integrates academics with co-curricular and life skills education. It is aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, striving to nurture responsible, skilled, and socially conscious citizens.
Over a planned implementation period of five years from 2022-23 to 2026-27, ATAL UTKRISHT Vidyalaya is expected to benefit thousands of students across Uttarakhand, setting a replicable example for other schools in the region. This initiative also emphasizes community involvement and continuous monitoring to ensure sustained improvements in school education quality

The state of Uttarakhand is carved out of Uttar Pradesh on Nov. 2009. It is surrounded by U.P. on the south, Himachal Pradesh on the west and International boundaries of Nepal on the east. China on the northeast. The total geographical area of the state is 53,483 sq. km which is 1.69% of total area of the country.
Uttarakhand was centre of education from the ancient time. It was believed that kauravas and Pandavas were trained by Guru Dronacharya in the foot hills of Himalaya that why Dehradun is also known as Drona Nagari. India’s best schools and training institutes are located in Uttarakhand. Education in the state of Uttarakhand has a sound background, right from the inception of the state. In Uttarakhand Department of education has a unified structure covering basic education, secondary education, State council of education research and training, Uttarakhand board of school education and exams are working under the umbrella of Directorate of School Education.
